Preppy Wedding Gets Married!!

Thanks for all of your well wishes and advice these last few days. Because I am going to be taking the next few days to tie up things before the wedding, I won't be available to blog until after I am a Mrs. Preppy Wedding!

Rest assured, I promise to take lots of pictures of the last minute details I have been wrapping up, so look for a great big post after the honeymoon. These last few days, my attention has shifted to the great vacation I am about to take. We already have reservations at two recommended Aruba restaurants and I think we know of a tour of the island to take!

If you're dying for updates on the wedding, feel free to check out our photographers' blog. They will probably post pictures of the wedding sometime next week!

Hope everyone has a fabulous week. I can't believe this is my last post as Miss Preppy Wedding.

Preppy Invitation Finds

I haven’t posted a good ebay find in a while and boy do I have a good one today! Thanks to wedding bee, I found the ebay vendor SweetXOXO Invitations.

Their stuff is very reasonable and every invitation comes with favor tags that match. They also have some really cute personalized invite cards and even some super cute place cards.

Here are some of my favorites.

As all my faithful readers know, this is officially my wedding week. I will still be working today and tomorrow and then have the rest of the week to tie up any details. My mom has the entire week off and has been such a savior these last few days. She has prepared the bathroom baskets, the out-of-town bags and has been coordinating payment drop offs with all our vendors.

I actually feel pretty calm this week. There is still a lot to be done, but I think everything is definitely falling into place! I also have my fingers crossed as the forecasts are calling for weather in the mid-70s on Friday and Saturday.
Oh and the preppy husband-to-be made it home safe and sound yesterday. No black eyes, no broken bones and it sounds like they had lots of fun.

Preppy Bachelor Parties

Well, I am not going to pretend to know how to throw a preppy bachelor party, but I do know the husband-to-be is off to celebrate his this evening. He and a bunch of his college and work friends are off to the Outer Banks for a long weekend. I’m very glad for him, he certainly deserves a break from me in these last few days. I’m ensuring him that my craziness is only temporary and will subside as soon as we board the plane to Aruba. I think he would like for me to sign something regarding this, but we’ll see!!

While he is gone, I have bunches of fun things to accomplish like getting my eyebrows waxed, doing my hair run through, finalizing calligraphy for a banner that will run between two topiaries at the reception. I am also packing in a Thursday Night Party with the girls and the preppy lil sis and I have a date planned for Mexican tomorrow.

I thought since I haven’t been able to take pictures of the finalized Preppy Wedding CD, I would at lease let you all know what songs we chose for the CD. And as always, I promise a more detailed post on where to buy the labels and packaging later.

Only Heart - John Mayer
Did you Ever Look So Nice - The Samples
Carry Your Heart - Blue Dogs
Bring It On Home to Me - Little Big Town
Feels Like Home to Me - Bonnie Rait
She’s Everything to Me - Brad Paisley
Once in a Lifetime Love - Keith Urban
With this Ring - The Platters
Signed Sealed Delivered - Stevie Wonder
Sweet Virginia Breeze - Steve Bassett
The Sweetest Thing - U2
Someone Like You - Van Morrison
When it Don’t Come Easy - Patti Griffin
Till Kingdom Come - Coldplay

You can see, it is a real mix. I adore country music, so there are a few of my favorites represented.

And I know some of y’all have questions as to how I will blog after the wedding? I mean, can I really be the preppy wedding? Well, I have some good ideas about how I will proceed (if you will) but I want everyone to be surprised. So the answer is, you’ll have to wait and see!

Preppy Everyday Dishes

Man, today was another stressful one for me. I am going to have to make an effort to calm down before the wedding. Nobody likes a bridezilla.
Speaking of brides, brings me to registries, which brings me to what? You guessed it. Everyday dishes. If you want to know which every day dish your favorite preppy blogger prefers, look no more.

Sarah from the Seven Spot and I enjoy the simple design of the Pottery Barn White dishes. We also like how Chinese take-out just seems more grown-up on real dishes.

The Susan’s from I heart Pink and Green and Love, Life and Labradors also enjoys the polka dot cuteness of PB’s Emma pattern. Obviously, they share taste and a name !!

A preppy reader, Katie, chose one of my other all-time favorites Staccato Dinnerware. I mean, come on, what is not to love about a polka dot border.

The Preppy Peach likes Lenox Butler's Pantry Gourmet.

Mrs. P, who always has exquisite taste, uses Wedgewood Nantucket Basket which has the cutest basket weave pattern around.

Debbie, from the Times of Debbie, uses the Belevedere pattern from Williams Sonoma in Cornflower Blue and couples it with Marisol placemats and tableware accessories. Tres Chic.

Preppy reader Allyn prefers Spode Delamere Blue which after seeing, I just LOVE.

Another reader, Courtney, has introduced me to Portmeirion Botanic Garden which is another super cute printed dish.
I am also a huge fan of Magnolias, Marriage & Manhattans choice, Vietri Incanto. The brand offers lots of patterns to choose from and I love the romantic, shabby chic effect.

Megan from Maine is true to her roots (let me re-phrase, her husband’s roots) with her choice of LL Bean’s blueberry dinnerware.

I’m so glad that TulipMom decided to delurk and share her pattern, Adeline by Villeroy & Boch. I visited a Villeroy & Boch outlet here in Virginia and fell in love with their stuff. All very usable and super preppy.

And last, but not least, our preppy leader, Monogram Momma mixed and matched colors of Denby’s Juice collection.

I think I can draw some conclusions from this preppy analysis. Us preppy girls like plain white dishes. Some of us like a little blue on our tables. If not blue, then a preppy print with some kind of floral pattern.
Hope everyone has a good tuesday. I have been spending the last week thinking this is the last time I will get my hair cut as a single woman. Or, this is the last time I will see so and so single.
I also have been going over (and over) the master wedding schedule. I now see my life in fifteen minute time slots.
On the plus side, everyone has been very good at dealing with my demanding tendencies this week and the fact that I end every conversation with an exasperated sigh. Instead of crossing your fingers for me, you may want to do it for my mom and husband-to-be who bear the brunt of my divaness lately!

Argghh

Sorry everyone for the lack of posts. For some reason blogger is not uploading my all the preppy everyday ware pictures. I don't have time today to try and figure out why but if anyone has good ideas, by all means let me know!

I promise I'll get the post working, I just love everyone's choices and I think the post in full can be a good resource for all you girl's picking your china and everyday ware.

Again, so sorry about the problems with today's post Things have been crazy - between final meetings, final walk throughs, getting the program ready to print, thank you notes, honeymoon shopping, picking out the perfect wedding day gifts for the husband-to-be, whew. I am tired just thinking about it.

We did have an awesome couples shower thrown by the husband-to-be’s mother and sister this weekend. I think I have told this story before, by my sister-in-law-to-be and I were in the same sorority in college. It is so great to have that common connection with her. I WISH I had taken more pictures the food was fantastic and southern inspired. I’m going to have to get the recipe for the red velvet cupcakes, they were to DIE for.

Hope everyone has a great Monday. I'll try to get blogger working again tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me that I make it through these next two weeks.

More Excuses

Please do execuse me again today. Things are ramping up quite frantically to the wedding and I just don't have time to finish my everyday ware post today. I PROMISE to have it ready by tomorrow girls and you can hold me to that.

I was looking over at Tinkled Pink (another new blogger, go say hello) that she was going through what a lot of us MMMIT (Monogram Mommas In Training) go through nightly when it comes to figuring out what's for dinner. I have been trying these last few months to build a portfolio of tried and true recipes that are quick, tasty and easy to prepare after a LONG days work.

I've blogged about some of my favorites, but I have a new contender, CRUNCY ONION CHICKEN. This is an easy dish and it is much better than your average shake and bake meal. It is YUMMY paired with mashed potatoes or if you are not as fond of starch, it would also be great with some fresh veggies.

CRUNCHY ONION CHICKEN
Ingredients:

1 1/3 cups French's® Original or Cheddar French Fried Onions

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves

1 egg, beaten

Directions:
1. Place French Fried Onions into plastic bag. Lightly crush with hands or with rolling pin. 2. Dip chicken into egg; then coat with onion crumbs, pressing firmly to adhere. Place chicken on baking sheet. Sprinkle with additional crumbs, if desired. 3. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes or until no longer pink in center. (The 20 minutes at 400° has always worked for me)

So - try it out girls. I think it may make it onto your staples list!

Preppy China Choices

I’m going to spend today’s post on china choices and talk a little bit tomorrow on everyday ware. Looking over all the blogger’s choices, I saw one thing - we all have very similar, very preppy taste.

Hopefully, everyone will celebrate their china tonight, by unpacking it from their cabinets and using it for gasp something like pizza or hamburger helper!

Lennox Patterns

My personal choice was Kate Spade’s Bonnabel Place setting (which has a cute paisley border) and I accented the choice with the cutest Larabee Road polka dot tidbit plates.

Sarah from In the Life of 5 Year Olds echoes the love of Kate Spade with her Library Lane Choice. She, too, accents with Larabee Road.

Kate Spade Cypress Hill is also favored by I Heart Pink and Green .

Because she has her grandmother’s china, Susan from Love Life and Labradors chose the Lennox Holiday pattern.

Like Susan, the Preppy Peach (who is new to the blog world, so show your manners and go say hello) also is inheriting her grandmother’s china, so she is also building a special Christmas collection with Lennox’s Spode Christmas Tree pattern.

KK, a reader, likes the way her Lennox Solitaire looks against her red dining room walls.

Wedgwood Choices

Melissa at Perfectly Pink has Vera Wang’s Grossgrain pattern. The name would be enough to convince me!

Courtney, a reader, also prefers Vera Wang, only the Lace pattern. I, too, love how romantic it looks.

Magnolias, Marriage and Manhattan is registered for the Wedgwood Crown Platinum.

Other Choices

Mrs. P loves her Bernardaud Cristal and Debbie prefers Kilbarry Platinum by Waterford.

Reader Allyn has one of the most beautiful, striking patterns I have seen in the Raynaud Allee Royale.

Remember to comment on your everyday ware choices and look for a post tomorrow.

Excuses, Excuses

Y’all are going to have to excuse me today. Between the wedding and being out of town all weekend for work, I am spent. I attended a conference at the Willard Hotel, which is beautiful for any of you planning trips to Washington, D.C. Though I didn’t get much sleep, I came back totally inspired with some new ideas on how to better do my day job.

Reading the blog on Thursday, I was thoroughly impressed by the husband-to-be’s comments. He did earn quite a few brownie points and now I think you girl’s know why I am such a lucky, inspired bride-to-be. I only wish that everyone could meet someone as genuinely nice, perfectly funny and out-right charming as my groom.

Ok. Enough mushy stuff. Because I am swamped with work and wedding stress, I am going to do something a little different. My boss just sent us three of our china serving pieces and let me tell you, they are beautiful. I want to do a survey of all you other bloggers out there. In the comments section Include your china pattern and your everyday ware choice. I’ll compose all the answers into a big, what’s everyone serving on post tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a fabulously happy Monday!

Observations from the other side...

The fiancé was very adamant that I post today and I figured I would take the opportunity to give my perspective on everything preppy in a wedding.

I’ll leave you all with 5 observations of a simple man:

First… the fiancé has done a superb job planning this wedding. I couldn’t imagine trying to do everything that she has done and I’m grateful to have someone like her in my life (going for brownie points here so work with me)
Second… preppy or not, a wedding is a great test of the endurance of one’s love for the other. There have been times when I have gone dizzy with the polka dots, monograms, bows and ribbons. I’m sure my lack of enthusiasm over what arrangement of flowers and tables with color schemes and chairs has irritated and annoyed my love but after the ceremony it’s just a big party with friends and family where the only thing they will remember is the food, booze and the band.

Third… the only thing the “preppy” groom will care about is the food, booze and band. Fortunately, I think we’ve done right in all of these departments. I did lose my battle for a bourbon fountain but you can’t always get everything you want.

Fourth… I can’t dance worth sh*%. I don’t blame myself. The problem when you are 6’4” and your dance partner is 5’2” is that when you are dancing you look like an abnormal giant working a puppet around the room. Regardless, the many dance lessons with our instructor have been amusing.

Fifth… I can’t wait for the day to come when my fiancé will become my wife. Besides the fact that the planning, dancing and practicing will end and we go on a much needed honeymoon, I’m looking forward to beginning the rest of my life with my best friend.

PS… if anyone is getting married please let the guy register for some fishing gear. We don’t care about china!
