Preppy Wedding Placecards

I got an e-mail last week from Sarah. She is in the final stages of wedding planning for her September Connecticut soiree and was looking for some preppy ideas on how to display place cards at her sit down reception.

I’ve got a few ideas for her (and all of you), so here goes ….

How about writing handwritten notes to your guests and addressing the envelope with their table number. I like these mini notes from papersource, but Kate’s Paperie is a good source too. You can coordinate with your wedding colors and it certainly sets the tone for a personalized, intimate wedding. If your wedding is outdoors, string some twine and use clothespins to attach the notes. Hydrangeas are the theme of Sarah’s wedding, so I like using them as a bed to display handwritten stark white cards. Or she could create mini hydrangea topiaries that look like this precious potted moss placecard? And better yet, it doubles as a favor.

I also like this preppy Martha ribbon board. This looks to be pretty easy to make and it would also be easy to customize to your wedding colors. And what’s a preppy wedding without a little grossgrain?

Here are some pictures with links to some other favorites (all from Martha - she is the best).

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Preppy Woo-Girls

Hey y'all, nothing wedding specific for this Friday (although I am working on a great navy and yellow themed storyboard).

SO, I thought I would share one of my all-time favorite articles with you all. From my college reunion, to the many bachelorette parties I've attended this summer, to hanging out at all these recent weddings I can still see that I belong in the generation of Woo-Girls.

Except now, we Woo when it's time for the couple's first dance as man and wife and we Woo when the bachelorette manages to commandeer a bar table top for her own special interpretation of Regulators (and you get extra woos if you make your hands into guns and you shoot/dance at the same time, just in case you didn't know). And we Woo when we manage to close down a bar at 4am in NYC (no matter if we fall asleep in the cab ride home).

Any other loud and proud Woo-Girls out there this lovely Friday afternoon?

Things I love: Fall Favorites

Hmmm…

Things are still a bit crazy at my day job, so I thought I would update you on some new things I love!

Old Navy Satin A-line Trench in Khaki. I’m so ready for fall and I tried this on in the store, it will definitely be my new fall staple.

This Shoshanna Button Neck Dress. I... love... this... dress. Maybe if I pray to the blog gods out there, some very rich reader will offer to sponsor me by purchasing this dress. I'm a size 6, in case you're out there ...
Aveda Sap Moss Shampoo and Conditioner. I’ve been using this for a while and it’s the best for colored hair because it doesn’t dry out. I know, you all thought I was a natural blond. So sorry to let everyone down.

Kate Spade Shopper Tote in black. How crazy that this style is considered vintage Kate Spade. Either way, I love it and think it needs to be my new work bag (to replace the very worn Longchamp bag that has served me so well).

What are your favorites for fall?

An Elegant Richmond Affair

One of my fabulous readers who hails from my hometown of Richmond, VA, e-mailed a few weeks back needing some guidance in planning her summer 08 wedding.

Her main concern was making a color scheme flow in her reception venue, the Country Club of Virginia. I’ve been to a few wedding receptions there and what strikes me the most about CCV is the unbelievable feeling of being enveloped by the lush green grass of the golf course that surrounds the club house. The second great thing about her wedding venue is that the outdoor space is almost always used (especially in the summer).

The girls will be wearing black J Crew dresses and I really thought her second color choice should be a beigy gold (as reflected in this beautiful Romona Keveza dress). It’s a good compliment to the venue and it lends itself to the thematic Southern Garden theme I have come up with. Think Charleston, Savannah and lots of beautiful garden like flower choices. I have included this picture from our wedding photographers that highlights CCVs outdoor space. And this picture from Holland Photo Arts shows the types of flower arrangements I have been thinking of. Jamali Garden Supply would be a great place to come up with ideas for staging arrangements.

I think that bringing in damask as a design highlight would also be great. Use it in these invites from wedding paper divas and in your cakes design (like this, but minus the topper, it distracts). If you like something a little more formal, how about these beautiful traditional Bella Figura invites. Your seating cards could also feature a damask like design to tie everything together.

As for a favor, why not do little white boxes filled with mini sugar cookies from Westhampton Pastry Shop (a Richmond tradition) wrapped with damask paper and tied with a big white bow. You could have the treats butlered at the end of the night or display them stacked between arrangements like Martha has suggested.

Mrs. Preppy Wedding is Back!

Hi all.

I hope everyone had a great week without me. I missed you all.

There were some things I really loved about Miami. The first being a bathtub in my hotel room that is as big as my WHOLE bathroom at home. And, I happened upon this awesome take-out lunch spot, Chicken Kitchen. If you're in Florida, check it out.

Things I don't like about Miami. Having your plane show up two hours late, causing you to miss your connecting flight home and stranding you in the Miami airpiort until 11am the next day. Oh, so not fun, I gotta tell you.

But, here I am home again and so happy to be here. And I have some news girls. It looks like the Knot is going to a Real Weddings magazine (and online) feature on our wedding! Can you even believe it. SO exciting. I don't want to jinx it, so I'll update you all as to when it should run.

For now, just know, next week I got lots of fun wedding ideas to share, so prepare yourselves!

Preppy Wedding Favs

Bonjour mes amies!

Hope everyone is doing well and had a fabulous weekend. Ours was lovely, we attended a fabulous wedding with lots of friends and had a great time in Charlotte, NC. It was good to get farther south to the land of sweet tea and hear lots of y’alls and aint’s being exchanged. I even dragged the husband into this awesome boutique and I went stationary comatose for a few hours.

Next weekend, we have another wedding to attend and tomorrow I leave for extended work trips to Miami and Raleigh. So, I guess you could say things are just a little busy. I am trying to finish up a bunch of requests from readers, so please just bear with me these next few weeks.

But, just because I love you, here are a few of my recent wedding favorites.

  • The multiple monogram cake
  • An ice cream sundae bar instead of a traditional cake, as seen on Platinum weddings last night
  • Greeting guests of an outdoor ceremony with a lemonade bar (think lemonade, limeade, with fresh fruit as garnishes and alcohol for those who wish to partake)
  • A personalized wedding mix for brides to play as they get ready for their wedding (Sexy Back was certainly included in my mix)
  • The new Martha Stewart Collection for Macys (for all you girls who still need to register)

What are your current wedding favorites?

Oh and I know congrats are in order for a few of our summer blogger brides. Mrs. Seven Spot and Mrs. Marriage Magnolias & Manhattan - Cheers to you both.

Hi all.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Things are crazy in the Preppy Wedding house this month with two out-of-town weddings back to back and a bunch of out-of-town work trips ** for this girl, my posting may be a little sparse.

But for today, take a look at this great pottery barn post on how to create a memory wall. There are even templates available for download! I think this is a perfect way to preserve wedding memories by making them a functional part of your decor.

Hope all is well in blogland ladies!!

*** The aforementioned trips include a three day jaunt to Miami next week. I'll be staying at the Four Seasons, but any restaurant/shopping reccomendations are very welcome. Keep in mind, I'll be flying solo!

Happy Belated July 4th

Hope everyone had a great July 4th! We had lots of fun yesterday watching fireworks and hanging out with friends.

Oh and Dempsey and LuLu got in the fun too!

You see yesterday, LuLu marched in a local parade with the Basset Brigade. Lu and about ten other bassets showed up in their finest fourth attire. LuLu was so cute, she ended up on the front page of today's Richmond Times Dispatch. Pretty cool huh? Y'all let me know if you want her autograph.
If you want to see LuLu's famous shot, click here and then click on slideshow: Celebrations in Ashland.

Hope you all had a great Wednesday too. I promise a storyboard tomorrow.

Wine & Cheese Shower

Just some fun pics from this weekend’s shower …

Since it was a wine & cheese shindig, we did corkscrews (from the Dollar Tree) with personalized labels from Etsy.

I love these napkins, they were a gift from Jennifer at TobeeNamed. If you want personalized products for your next shower, these are the way to go.
To make it more about the couple getting married, we made sure to feature some of their favorite pics down our staircase. The Best Wishes is from Martha Stewart’s new Michaels craft line. If you haven’t checked it out yet you should.

We served lots of fun things, but here are a few with links to their recipes:

- Rose Sangria

- Mini Onion Quiche

- Mini Pimento Cheese Sandwiches

Oh and just cause you’ve missed her, here’s LuLu enjoying the festivities with her dad. And what you can’t see is that I made him wear the Jcrew shorts with the fabulous fish embroidered on them. Tres preppy!!

Oh and here are some fun pics of some things we've recently done to the house. I know a few bloggers were sharing their "signs" and here's my favorite.

And I wanted to display pictures of our wedding in one central location, so why not on top of the place where I spent (ahem - waste) all of my time.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend. I know I am looking forward to Wednesday already!
